Messaging and
collaboration systems have become unavoidable parts of enterprises.
They help organizations in collaborating effectively to improve
efficiency, and to increase productivity. Today, organizations have
choices like MS Exchange Server, IBM Domino, and Novell GroupWise for
messaging and collaboration systems. The choice of a messaging and
collaboration system by an organization usually depends on the
requirements of the organization, its infrastructure, and cost
considerations.</div>

Is it necessary to migrate from one platform to
another?</h2>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Yes, sometimes it is.
Usually investment on the infrastructure messaging and collaboration
platforms is considered for long term. But when there are mergers or
acquisitions between firms that are using different platforms, or
when a company is in need of a more suitable platform than the
present one, migration from one platform to another becomes
essential.</div>

Exchange to Domino migration – what are the
advantages?</h2>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Exchange Server, from
Microsoft, is the most popular of all messaging and collaborations
platforms. But Domino/Notes form IBM has its own advantages. Exchange
Server is designed for Windows environment. But IBM Domino supports
Windows, OS X, Linux, AIX and Solaris. Also, IBM domino supports
hardware and software virtualization, and offers some complementary
products along with it. With its application level clustering, it is
more flexible and dependable. Also, many organizations choose Domino
considering its low operational costs.</div>

File formats used by Exchange Server, Outlook and
Domino</h2>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Exchange Server stores
its data in Exchange Database (EDB) files and Streaming Database
(STM) Files. These two files together from Exchange store repository.
The EDB file tables mainly contain metadata of email messages, MAPI
messages and attachments. At the same time, MS Outlook, the client of
Exchange Server, stores its email messages, calendar, tasks, and
other items on your system as Outlook Data file (PST).
</div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
IBM Notes database uses
Notes Storage Facility (NSF), an IBM proprietary file format, for
storing its Notes information such as data, metadata and design
information. Notes mail stored on Domino Server, and address book
database stored on user system are in NSF format. The NSF files are
read both by the Domino Server and the Notes client.</div>

While migrating from MS
Exchange to IBM Domino, one has to move directory information,
mailboxes, mail, and addresses from Exchange to Domino to change them
to Domino /Notes format. There are two methods for the migration
from Exchange to Domino:</div>

<div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
Using Exchange Server Migration Wizard to migrate Novell GroupWise mailboxes to Exchange Server is a big headache. You need to do a lot of preparation before starting the GroupWise to PST migration. Listed below are the requirements that you must need to meet before moving ahead in the process of migrating GroupWise to PST using Microsoft Exchange Server Migration Wizard:</div>
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>You must have to install GroupWise client to migrating data from GroupWise to PST. You need this because the Exchange Server Migration Wizard uses the GroupWise client to open mailboxes and copy data from them.</li>
<li>You must have to install Outlook client.</li>
<li>You must need to Grant proxy access to every GroupWise mailbox that you want to convert into the PST file. The Microsoft Exchange Server Migration Wizard uses the proxy access to open the mailbox and access data from it.</li>
<li>You have to grant proxy access for every mailbox that you want to migrate to Exchange Server. Doing this will consume lot of time especially when you have to migrate 1000s of mailboxes to PST files. </li>
</ul>
<div align="JUSTIFY">
If you are ready to meet all these pre-requisites and if you have enough time to manually grant proxy access to every GroupWise mailbox then the Microsoft Exchange Server Migration Wizard is the best solution to perform GroupWise to PST migration. However, if you cannot create proxy entries for every mailbox that you want to migrate to Exchange Server then you must use a third party GroupWise to PST tool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMn26YacHORyIKqo2LUip4UoEknhE2Q9PCclynE5jDCbrWoRtlm6eNOjlyU5ACjE04at2DEQk7OOnTsagF1JJ-S63o1Rm9RW5GCm2t27KFWxGCV-zvgAa841U94pzN8mELa2FW9EAhq7c/s1600/data_migration.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<div align="JUSTIFY">
The third party GroupWise migration tool will not ask you to create proxy settings for every mailbox account. It will only ask you to provide the user name and password of the GroupWise mailbox that you want to convert into the PST file. And if you want to convert multiple mailboxes to the PST files, then the software will help you to do this by enabling you to create a batch file for multiple GroupWise mailbox migration.</div>
<div align="JUSTIFY">
<br /></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY">
Kernel for Novell GroupWise to Exchange Server is an amazing tool that allows you to convert GroupWise to PST in just few moments. Using this tool, you can perform single or multiple GroupWise to PST migration. While using this software to migrate multiple GroupWise mailboxes, you just have to create a batch file, which is quite easy to create. That batch file will contain information, such as user’s mailbox ID, password, etc. about the GroupWise mailboxes to be converted into the PST file which the software uses to perform GroupWise to PST migration. You can Download the software from the following site: <a href="http://www.groupwisetopst.net/">http://www.groupwisetopst.net/</a></div>
